Plan your Meals

Lately, I've found myself wanting to eat a little bit healthier, but in order to get a jump start on things I need to organize my ideas on paper.

I don't know how many times I have read that ones of the things you can do to aid yourself in the road to lose weight, get fit, and lead a healthier life is to plan your meals ahead of time.

Last week I picked up a weekly meal organizer over at Target.  I had already eyed it on a previous visit, but decided not to get it at that particular moment. When I saw it once again last week I knew I had to get it.  It cost me between $8.00 -$9.00 (I cleared out my wallet yesterday and threw out the receipt because I knew I was not going to return anything).

Weekly Menu Planner Organizer Wipe Off Set.  The Wipe-Off Board is divided in 3 columns: lunch, dinner, notes &it has 7 rows for each day of the week.  The best thing is that it has a magnet so you can set it on your fridge.  I love that I don't have to waste as much paper in doing a chart for our weekly meals. The board is very sturdy and does not slide around the fridge as you write on it, although it is easier if you just lay it flat on a table surface.

Sample lunch plans and menu that came written on the plastic that was on top off the planning board.

The set also includes a shopping list note pad.  It could also be used as a to-do list.  I love making lists, so this note pad has come in extremely handy.

It comes with a black erase off marker so you can write down your weekly menu.  The next week you just take your marker and use the integrated cap sponge eraser to clean off the board.  You can also use a soft tissue and erase the board clean.

Planning your meals ahead of time gives you an idea of what items you really need to pick up at the supermarket as opposed to just grabbing whatever you feel like in the moment. Writing down your meals or what you have planned to do for lunch &  dinner also helps you visualize how much you are eating and how nutritious or not your food is.  I've also found that writing down the menu of the week can make others look forward to eating your food-sort of like at a restaurant.

What are your thoughts on planning meals ahead of time?

I like meal planning, however I really don't do the weekly thing yet, but that planner from target is so cute! I like to have LOTS of healthy food on hand, that way the possibilities are endless and we keep NO junk food in the house, so there's no temptation!!

  14. We have gone to the Melting Pot a few times and I love it. We only go once a year, for our Anniversary, since it is so expensive but the food is delicious. We usually do their big night out package with the 4 course meal, its about $100.

  17. That's pretty cool- I've been planning meals (a month at a time) for about 2 years now. It is such a load off my shoulders not too stand at the pantry and ponder my ingredients. It is honestly a GREAT time save. I'm following you (through a blogger that was following me). Follow back at

  20. I started doing a meal planner a few weeks ago. I find I just get too busy in the day and sometimes get to 4pm and I have no idea what to cook. So this way I am more relaxed about what to cook for dinner and it also means I save money because when I do my grocery shopping ( I do it every 2 weeks), I can buy the things I need for those meals.

  21. I find when I plan meals that I never feel like what I planned to eat on the day that I plan it (typical me! I am just no good at routine). I tend to just shop for a list of meals and select something off the list to cook on the night. I like your little meal planner though.
